About The Speakers

Christian Ortmann PhD is the application specialist for Microcalorimetry at TA Instruments since 2008. Based in Germany, he recently took the position as Application Team Leader Europe Central (2021). He received his PhD in Animal Physiology at University Düsseldorf dealing with the Asian clam, a well known invader in River systems. In his work he implemented a method to reveal anaerobic capacities of invertebrate metabolism using simultaneous measurements of oxygen consumption and direct calorimetry. Later he worked as Research Associate at the Federal Institute of Hydrology in Koblenz before he was acquired by TA Instruments. Beside leading the application team in Europe Central his key responsibilities are customer support, consulting and training in microcalorimetric applications.

Clara Berg is a PHD student at the chair of Technical Electrochemistry (Hubert Gasteiger, TU Munich) with a background in chemistry. Her research field is the Li-Ion Battery Research: Calorimetric study of next-generation anode and cathode active materials (Aqua-HysKaDi project).

Alexander Kunz is a PhD student at the Institute for Electrical Energy Storage Technology (Andreas Jossen, TUM) with a background in electrical engineering. He works with Clara Berg on the characterization of next-generation active materials for Lithium-ion batteries such as silicon and lithium- and manganese-rich NCM for lithium-ion batteries. A special focus is on the elucidation of hysteresis effects which coincide with a significant heat release.
